Life in the Plains is hard work compared to being in the East. Mom and Dad first heard about the new land from some old friends who were going West, too. Dad was immediately struck with visions of big farms, mining towns, and a new start. After some coaxing, Mom did too. Dad took our life's savings to buy a covered wagon and horse. We packed up our things and less than a week later, we were off. Finally, after a few months of traveling, we parked the wagon and started building.
